THE
RONDE HIVERNALE rally, first round of the 2003 Lebanese
National Championship, took the crews to Mount Lebanon and
included six special stages.
Competitors
tackled a total of 55 km over a total distance of more then
250 km. The weather was great but only 12 cars completed the
rally.
Abdo Feghali,
JWRC Lebanese rally driver, led the event from the first stage
until the end of the rally, with an advantage of more than
a minute and half over his closest rival Doumit bou Doumit.
The Red
Bull driver had a trouble free run in his Mitsubishi Lancer
as he set six fastest times over all six stages of the rally.
Feghali
said: "I'm happy with the result. The crew and Motortune
did such a great job with the car, which is part of the reason
for success. This is a good rally, the stages are great with
so much variety, and I would like to congratulate my cousin
Ziad who took an impressive third position."
"
I will drive a new lancer Evo VII from Cool Motorsport for
the next two Championship events and a World Rally Car for
the Rally of Lebanon."
Bou Doumit
finished in second position in another Lancer Evo V. The Lebanese
champion suffered from engine mapping problems during the
event but he drove a measured rally and was rewarded with
a solid finish.
Doumit
said: "I had a small accident on the first stage and
damaged the bodywork a little bit. However, I've really enjoyed
this event and I would like to thank Enoc Motor Oil for their
support."
Ziad Feghali
brought his Clio home in third position and was overjoyed:
"We just wanted to finish the rally," he explained.
"Our final position was the icing on the cake!"
In fourth
place Marco did a very good job - just 34 seconds behind Ziad
and the two Mitsubishi Lancers of Abdel Hak and Elan finished
in fifth and sixth position respectively.
