HARRI ROVANPERA and Risto Pietilainen lead the Rally of Turkey after the first leg.

The pair have edged out a 20 second lead over Citroen's Carlos Sainz and Marc Marti while Ford's Francois Duval and Jean-Marc Fortin are third.

After last night's Super Special, the first leg saw a major shake up of the leaderboard. Early leader Marcus Gronholm dropped down the order after his Peugeot suffered with power steering problems. He is still in the event but currently lies in 18th position, more than ten minutes behind the leader.

Sebastien Loeb was another casualty of the first leg. He and co-driver Daniel Elena went the wrong way towards stage four. When they realised their mistake, they turned around but the car didn't have enough petrol to complete the stage. Petter Solberg also retired when his steering arm broke on his Subaru.

In the JWRC category, Daniel Carlsson leads in his Suzuki Ignis. Dungannon's Kris Meeke held sixth position for most of the day despite rolling his Opel Corsa on the final corner of stage one. Damage was superficial but he retired on the final stage of the leg when his wheel nuts sheared.
