MARCUS
GRONHOLM and Timo Rautiainen have won the Rally New Zealand
and the 2002 World Rally Championship!
Peugeot
have also won the Manufacturers Championship with their eighth
maximum score of the season. Gronholm and Rautiainen took
the lead of the event after team-mates Richard Burns and Robert
Reid rolled out on stage fifteen. The pair were nearing the
end of the stage when they slid wide on a fourth gear right-hand
corner. With a left-hand corner almost immediately after it
the car was sent into the air, over a fence and cartwheeled
into the trees. Neither Burns nor Reid were injured in the
incident.
Harri
Rovanpera and Risto Pietilainen finished second ahead of Tommi
Makinen and Kaj Lindstrom in third.
